Airmail - Lightning Fast Email App Reviews

Thanks Steven from Airmail

This app is waaaaay better than that stock mail thingamabob that comes with the Mac. Everything runs much smoother in my opinion. I actually ran into an issue trying to sync my yahoo account because I rush and I dont read directions lol. Thanks to Steven from Airmail, he quicly responded to my cry for help and now I’m just as happy as can be! (Get that guy a raise)

Lots of connectivity with other apps, but missing a few essentials

I switched to Airmail after the Mac Mail app ate my messages. I’m not a real power user of email, and so don’t use many of the connectivity features of Airmail. Mostly it is a workable substitute for Mac Mail for me. One annoying problem is that when I attach documents they go to the very bottom of the email. And if there a string of replies, it means the receiver is probably not going to notice I’ve sent an attachment. This is a real problem for me. Other than that it’s a fine and workable program. The set up was super easy and the tech support has been quick and helpful. You could say one of the best features of Airmail is the tech support. They rock!

So much more versitle than Mac mail

The amount of customization may seem overwhelming, however once set up it is worth the time. Connectivity is flawless and the one time I sought help from support, Sarah solved my issue immediately. Love the product, worth the price.

Convenient Email Reviews

I find Airmail 3 greatly simplifies reviewing the mail from my many accounts. It lets me mark each account with a distinctive icon, and each account has all the folders that the stand-alone accounts have. Each folder is assigned a distinctive color dot to aid in locating it for transferring mail to it. Email can also be marked with a color co-ordinated label if one does not wish to put it in the folder yet. Each important email can also be starred. Although the coloured labels help, I’d prefer to have a hierarchy of coloured stars to indicate computer-related mail, medical mail, purchase confirmations and shipment notifications, mail about topics/products I’m interested in but not ready to read/putchase, etc. The online chat support is very helpful: Sarah guided me through a couple issues I’d submitted; she was very polite and courteous, and helped me find solutions quickly. She also sent an email of our conversation.

Spam handling is HORRIBLE

A couple days ago I had 1000 spam emails get through their spam filtering all at once. Now I’m having to mark them as spam manually. Airmail theoretically works with Spam Sieve, which is phenomenal at what it does. But Airmail’s implementation is horrible. If email comes in while you’re looking at mail in some folder other than the Inbox, there is no spam filtering. God forbid you walk away from your computer and not have the Inbox selected. You’ll come back to a complete mess. There are also cases where OS X might start Airmail before Spam Sieve. In that case the email Airmail pulls will not get filtered and what’s worse there’s no way to filter it after the fact. On average 92% of my email is spam (about 450 per day). It’s 2016. If you can’t filter spam, you’re a crap email program. Oh, and on top of that, Airmail’s interface makes the subject really big and the sender really small – which is very spammer friendly. If you want a proper email program use Postbox. Problem is I need two different ones and finding a decent second is almost impossible.

Promising, but unreliable; back on the shelf.

I thought this might be THE ANSWER to my management of multiple email accounts, but instead ended up being too slow and its positive features ended up being positively problematic. Feel like I wasted $, but will put it on the self for awhile hoping they might fix the clunky and buggy performance. (From what I read, dealing with support will not prove useful, and I don’t have the time to waste…)

Airmail 3 is the Right Way to Go!

I was just postulating how the two biggest tech giants, Apple and Microsoft, could have the worst email clients for OSX. Email is a 30 year old technology and the clients they offer are not good. Outlook is still the old stodgy Microsoft product with a few neat foo-dads and Mail is a neglected weary app. Then along comes AirMail. Seemless integration, no more, “Oh gee we forgot your password you put in 15 minutes ago” and no more SMTP errors and no more “Is this note from your wife Junk” errors after having trained the product. Oh yeah, and then there are the apps beig integrated into the email client. Trello is set up and Evernote and a few other choice apps to help m get through my day. AWESOME. Best email client available.

Great product and GREAT support

I’m transitioning to Airmail as a previous longtime (decade+) user of Mac Mail. Admittedly it’s been a challenge but mostly thats because my habits have been tuned to Mac Mail. But I could no longer abide a lack of product development and too many bugs and quirks in the Apple product, and went on a search. I have found Airmail to be a great solution. I’m still coming up to speed with all of the features, which brings me to their support. I’ve seen some comments about lackluster support in these reviews, but I have to say I have found it to work great. Most of my questions have been “how do I do this?” or “what does this mean?” and their chat support (most recently Steven - fast to respond, helped me figure out what I did in my Gmail settings to change what shows up in Airmail) is efficient, fast to respond and conversational so I can get my answer quickly and back to work. The few areas where I am looking for a feature or a workflow and not only do they explain what can/can’t be done, but they forward the request to the dev team and I’ve already seen them addressed in subsequent releases. In contrast - the bar is admittedly set LOW with Apple support but trying to get “power user” help with Mac Mail (ie rebuilding your mail database from the Library file or duplicate management upon import, etc…) is all but impossible. All this team does is their email app, and thus the range of help from basic tags/labels up to more powerful stuff is all there. All in all, I’m still in a learning curve of breaking 10+ years of Mac Mail habits but I am really liking the flexibility and speed of Airmail - along with their flexibility and speed of their support!

great support experience

I was trying to setup Airmail 3, and got the wrong IMAP server from my mail provider at first. I was able to get effective chat support online (from Paul this time) who gave me enough clues to dig some more for the right information. So far. so great!

Multiple Email Accounts!

I’m using Outlook.com, iCloud.com, and Amazon Workmail. Airmail 3 support did a great job helping me. The app is very responsive, clean and stable. Negatives: When trying to import a .mac account it all went south but other than that it’s great. Thanks.

so far….

PROS: * ease of setting up exchange accounts * works with multiple exchange accounts. Which is one reason OS X Mail app lacks in. * able to create a local account. * Unifies mailboxes * support. Steven answered my questions/concerns quickly and was spot on. CONS: * None yet. I am sure I will have some but I will update as I use the application. Some might say the cost of the application is a bit pricey, but come on… I bet half you people drop more a week on candy crush or such. I see it this way. If I’m gonna shell out $10 for lunch then that ain’t pricey for an app that does everything I need it to and possibly more. Once again. Thanks Steven.

FINAL TRY: DONE

UPDATE 072816 Today I found out that my email has not been sending. I know the reason revolves around a mistake in the Outgoing Email Settings. Even with this being the “cause” I am still stopping Airmail because there was NO NOTICES that my mail was not sending. The APP dropped a very important ball. From 4 to 1 star. Why? Simple. Excellent APP, NO USER GUIDE. A bunch of web pages cannot replace a User Guide. Enough! If I can’t use the product, it’s gone.

Fantastically flexible and constantly improving!

Really impressed with this app--flexible, customizable, lots for power users! I *love* that I can *finally* send something to Evernote directly from my mail program! Support has been great on multiple requests (thanks, Sarah!)

Airmail is great

Nice work team, this app makes sending email fun and pretty! I love it and recommend it to everyone I can. One request: Can the bulleted lists be made so that if you hold SHIFT + ENTER together you drop down without creating a bullet but are still within the list (i.e.: doing so will not upset the order of numbered bullets below)? I often want to include a piece of information below a bullet without that information being on the same line or having its own bullet (e.g.: a physical address), but when I do so all the subsequent numbered bullets start over from “1". Being able to do that would be super. The app is sweet regardless, please disregard any haters who are determined to find something to complain about!

ridiculous support!

First day using this app. At 1am when I realized I couldn’t find some very important work e-mails, I started panicking. Checked the native mail app on my mac, nope…gone. So then I really freaked out. Since I still have Airmail’s webpage open in my browser, I immediately sent a chat message to ask for help. Even though the chat window showed that there’s Airmail Team members available, but I didn’t actually think I would be able to get help in the middle of the night. To my surprise, this guy named Paul immediately responded to my message and within about 2 minutes my problem was solved. WOW. All I’m thinking now is…that’s a lot of work to put in to sell one app……….I’m amazed. Other than that, I must also say I am pleasantly surprised how well designed this app is. I don’t know a thing about building apps, but from I do see, it’s very difficult to find an app that’s both pact with features as well as easy to use. This app is an exception. I’m a visual kinda person and it’s layout is easy on the eye, and makes the mailbox easy to go through. At a glance this app looks very simple, but with one click here and there you will realize there are so many useful features that are easily accessible. In other words, it will suit you whether you like it simple or multifunctional. Finally, I have found the Airmail Knowledge Base webpage to be very useful in looking up features I don’t know about.

Far more robust than Mail

I’m a Mac guy, but I have found that this app is superior to Mail. Somehow my Mail app stopped responding on my MacBook Air a couple of years ago, and I couldn’t get it to work no matter what I tried (the only time I’ve had such a thing happen with a Mac in the past decade). So I found Airmail then and now with my new MacBook I continue to use it. Have used support a few times and they are very quick and responsive with great answers. Sarah was great helping me set Airmail as my default email composer recently. Highly recommend this app, well worth it!

Support

I have had airmail for so long.. I bought it because of the amazing interface however, something as simple as changing the font size which should be standard in any email application.. they couldn’t even do..who cares to add a lot of features when you aren’t helping people see! I wish they actually listen and try to help.. however, I doubt it..

Good mail handling, slow searching, lack of encryption support

Airmail does a good job in allowing quick triaging of incoming emails, with great keyboard shortcut support, quick message filing, “snoozing” of messages, etc. However, it has some serious shortcomings that, at least from the responses from technical support, the developers seem to have little or no interest in correcting. * It’s impossible to search within a single mailbox, making it extremely difficult to find messages in a glacially slow global search that may search 10s of thousands of message and returns hundreds of hits. * GPG/PGP/Encryption “support” is through a non-supported 3rd party plugin that has numerous major bugs making it almost unusable. It hasn’t been updated in more than a year, and Airmail provides absolutely no support for it, nor are they willing to make any commitments to future encryption support. This is almost an unforgiveable oversight for a modern email client. * Synchronzining mailboxes can be extremely slow, and mailboxes can get into inconsistent states requiring removal of all cached messages and full resynchronization of the associated accounts. Airmail is definitely a more efficient app than Apple Mail from a UI standpoint, and with a little effort, could be made a superior product. However, the attitude of the support and development teams does not make me optimistic that this will happen.

Unfinished product

I’m really disapointed to find to much bugs in v2.1. I won’t make a list of all the bugs, only the last one : a dialog box which constantly ask me to sign in some (but not all) my google accounts. The app is full of those little bugs that, once put together are a big NOPE for the next version, or any other product from Bloop software. I’mp going back to Airmail 1 which, at least, worked fine in the last versions.

Better than ever

Release 2.5 works fine for me on Mavericks and seems a lot faster than before. All the previous functionality works for me, and the search by date is a great addition. Now to test the different themes :)
